| Dartitis...Develop A New Habit By :Ralph Chavez Part I of a two part series. |
| OK. Here we go again. I don't particularly like going over this dartitis thing over and over, because what we focus on in our mind tends to come out in our form. So this will be the last article I write on it. Since I have several friends with this mental infliction I'm going to throw out one last bit of training advice and help. I can do this because I have a nice smooth stroke and release of my dart. Now how does the qualify me? Because I went through Seven years of major dartitis. Realize that everyone is full of advice for you, so be open minded to try a lot of different things. Kind of like having a key ring with a hundred keys on it and you walk up to a door (dartitis) and start trying the keys. Absolutely knowing that the right key is there: it's just a matter of trying them one at a time until the right one comes up and the door is opened--back to the smoothstrokin and release of that dart. You have developed a bad habit. The key is to DEVELOP A NEW HABIT of "I have a very smooth stroke and release of my dart". This is one of my affirmations I have put on a cassette tape with brogue music background. I listen to it every time I get into my car where the tape permanently resides. You only need 6 or 7 affirmations, repeating them three to four times each and maybe leave 4 seconds between each different affirmation set. Do this to fill out the tape. What this does is gives you a focus on what you want to have happen in your Form--Smoothstrokin. I'm a firm believer that it is a mental cause of OVERDOSE. You can believe whatever you want. If you have a different view than write a self-help article. For now just be quiet and listen. I really believe we get so focused on Results, we OVERdose ourselves on results. Kinda like taking a prescription drug. Taken in moderation it is OK. But dump the whole bottle into your system at once and find yourself in big trouble. At sometime or other you have gotten so results oriented and focused that it sets off a short circuit in your brain to muscle smooth flowing coordination. Normally your eyes look at the target to be hit. You consciously send a message to your brain, throw at the bullseye. Now your system goes into unconscious mode. The brain (the unconscious mind) raises the arm up somewhat on line with your intended target. The arm drops back and quickly throws the dart toward the bullseye, in a coordinated, smoothstroking throw. At this point you have to realize one of two things is going to happen here. Your dart is either going to hit inside the bullseye or it is going to hit outside the bull. Bottom line--Nobody but nobody hits with 100% consistency, every time they throw. It is not going to happen, it will never happen. You can take a rifle and put it on a table, on a sandbag and shoot 100 rounds and they all won't hit the same spot. Well our body is more flimsy, flexible and has more movement and what about our emotions of the day. Allot of things affect our consistency of form. The more you train and this is awareness training, focused on specifics of your form and refining your own personal form; the more consistent you will become in hitting your target or at least around your target. But you will never be perfect. So lighten up on your focus on perfect results. What you are striving for now instead of perfection (which overdose you), is excellence. Where is your focus-- Since we are now focusing on our target and secondarily on our specifics of our own unique form instead of results we can throw--smoothstrokin--without overdosing on perfect results. It is basic human nature to want good results and to win, we just don't want to OVERDOSE on them. Watch for Part II of the series, to be posted on 03/15/07 |
